Jovita is Tita’s childhood schoolteacher. She is widowed at a young age and left to raise a child as a single mother. She never has any suitors or love interests again. Jovita goes half mad, staying up all night to clean the streets each night before coming to work at school the next morning. Tita believes it is Jovita’s loneliness that drives her to madness.
