William Character Analysis

William is a friend and colleague to Dadhabai Naoroji and Mohandas Gandhi. Though The Empress specifies only that William is a “Liberal politician,” it is likely that the character is based on William Digby, a famous British radical, or William Wedderburn, a real-life friend of Naoroji’s (and a fellow parliamentary politician) who would later go on to help found the Indian National Congress.
