Summary
Analysis
One day, Fin and Max hear a woman yelling up the hill. They go out and see a woman confronting Starvos, demanding that she be allowed inside his store to buy some food. Starvos angrily fends her off, knocking her down and locking himself in his store. Shocked, Fin and Max go to help her up, but she only curses them out for not helping her sooner. The boys walk home. At home, they take an inventory of their remaining food, which they estimate will barely last them two weeks.
Starvos, having previously price gouged the boys, now emerges as a more explicitly unlikable figure. Yet the woman’s equally angry interaction with the boys suggests that people in general are growing hostile and impatient with one another.

One day, Lokey suddenly arrives at the house. He’d gotten sick of being cooped up with his mom, and put chains on his tires, and driven over. Lokey quickly suggests that they sample Greg’s liquor cabinet. Reluctant at first, Fin soon relents and even picks out Greg’s most expensive bottles to drink, thinking ruefully about how he went off with Kara and left him and Max behind.
