Patsy Loski Character Analysis

Patsy Loski is Bryce and Lynetta’s mother, Rick’s wife, and Chet’s daughter. She’s depicted as a good mom who loves her kids, but as the novel progresses, it is revealed that she’s at a crossroads in her marriage. From an outsider’s perspective, she and Rick appear to have an idyllic life: two healthy kids, a nice home (that they own), wealth and relative security. But after one night at dinner when Rick and Chet get into a fight—largely due to insensitive comments Rick makes about the Bakers—Bryce catches his dad sleeping on the couch, a sign his parents have been arguing. Later in the novel, Patsy confides in Trina, admitting that after two decades of marriage, she’s only now begun to see him for the ugly person he actually is. Patsy’s arc ultimately mirrors Juli’s in an inverted way: both are coming to see a Loski man in an entirely new light—Patsy at the end of her relationship, and Juli at the beginning of hers.

Where had all this stuff come from?

And why hadn’t I ever seen it before.
