The Bear: Scene 2 Summary & Analysis

Summary
Analysis
Left alone, Popova addresses her husband’s photograph. She tells him that she is “a good girl, a faithful little wife” and asks him if he is ashamed of his behavior. She is true to him, even though he cheated on her, threw fits, and abandoned her for weeks at a time.
Popova continues to grieve out of ego and more explicitly cites her own image as the source of her sorrow. She believes that by playing the role of a good wife and accepting her husband’s infidelity, she somehow wins. She’d rather adhere to gender roles than her own happiness.
