Finding Audrey: Chapter 31 Summary & Analysis

Summary
Analysis
After dinner, Anne and Chris disappear into Chris’s office for close to two hours. When they leave, Audrey asks Frank if he can hack into Chris’s email. Frank says he can, and the two go into Chris’s office and pull up his email. They find the most recent email sent, which both Anne and Chris signed. The email is written to the mother of Izzy, who is one of the girls who, according to the email, “persecuted” Audrey at school. In the email, Anne and Chris have written that they can’t believe Izzy’s mother emailed Audrey directly. They also say that they won’t risk any more psychological damage to Audrey by having her see Izzy, even if Izzy only wants to apologize. After Frank and Audrey finish reading the email, Audrey begins to panic and asks Frank if she should see Izzy. Frank says it sounds like a terrible idea.
This passage provides more information about what happened to Audrey in February that caused her to leave school and enter the mental health wing of a hospital for six weeks. Namely, it seems that a number of girls “persecuted” or tormented Audrey. That led those three girls to be expelled from school and, in addition to leading Audrey to enter the hospital, also contributed to the mental health conditions that Audrey continues to experience. Anne and Chris respond in their email by setting firm boundaries with Izzy’s mother, but Audrey seems to have other ideas in mind.
