Spectacular Things: Chapter 13 Summary & Analysis

Summary
Analysis
Seven months later, Liz gives birth to her second daughter. She names her Kristine, but Kristine soon becomes known by almost everyone by her nickname, Cricket. After Cricket is born, Mia feels jealous of her. As Cricket gets older, she proves to be a preternaturally adept soccer player. While people think that Mia is talented and will be a notable high-school player, people think that Cricket could be a star soccer player on a global level.
This chapter shows that during Q’s time in Maine, Liz became pregnant with Cricket and that Q is Cricket’s father. Notably, after Cricket is born, Mia feels jealous of her sister, and Cricket also seems to be a more talented soccer player than Mia. The novel will then explore how those differences and the dynamics between the two sisters will impact them as they grow older.
