Six months later, Mia receives an email saying she’s been accepted at Yale. Mia, Liz, and Cricket go to the restaurant where Liz works, Primo Bistro, to celebrate. As they eat dinner, Cricket tells Mia that she’s incredible. For the first time in her life, Mia believes that that’s true.
Again, the novel shows that as a result of constantly supporting Cricket, Mia’s self-esteem has suffered. The novel suggests that being admitted and then attending Yale may offer Mia an opportunity to find her own identity apart from Liz and Cricket.
