Counting by 7s: Chapter 13 Summary & Analysis

Summary
Analysis
Jairo is still thinking about what Willow said to him earlier about not letting anyone tell him what he can do. He only wanted to drive a cab as a temporary job, but now it’s been years. Meanwhile, for the first time in his career, Willow has caused Dell to think about his work outside of school hours.
Like Dell, Jairo has struggled to find a sense of purpose and motivation in life. This chapter juxtaposes the struggles of both characters to show how being exposed to independent thinking—in the form of Willow—is causing them to reconsider their lives.
