Jimmy Parsons Character Analysis

Tommo and Charlie know Jimmy Parsons from school, where Jimmy was always a bully. As a child, he once taunted Big Joe, and both Charlie and Tommo attempted to fight him for it. Mr. Munnings then gave Jimmy and Charlie the cane for fighting. Jimmy cried out “Ow, sir!” as he was punished, whereas Charlie endured his punishment in silence. Jimmy is the first character mentioned who signs up for the war, and Tommo claims that he Jimmy only enlisted in an effort to “show off.” At the end of the novel it is revealed that he has died in battle.
