Lupe’s poem surprises Tyrone because she rarely speaks. He refers to Lupe as “the daydreamer” and wonders why she never smiles.
The fact that Lupe does not smile suggests that there is more going on with her than meets the eye. Once again, Tyrone realizes he may have misjudged one of his classmates.
