Janelle’s poem is about her inner beauty. She chastises anyone who would insult her looks and ignore the beautiful person that is inside of her.
While Devon may not have insulted Janelle, her poem suggests that other people have negatively commented on her looks. In a sense, the poem is also reflexive, as Janelle herself is too focused on beauty standards that do not reflect inner beauty.
