Analysis
Lupe delivers a poem about loneliness and friendship. She describes the horrible feeling of complete solitude, which is quicky replaced by the arrival of a “pale-skinned” friend.
The pale-skinned friend Lupe references in her poem is Leslie. Although loneliness feels horrible, Lupe is able to overcome it through the act of writing poetry and embracing the community that is slowly emerging in Mr. Ward’s class.
