Peter, the RAF narrator’s roommate and fellow pilot in “Katina,” is easygoing and well-liked. He quickly grows attached to the young, orphaned Katina after the squadron adopts her into their ranks. After he is killed by the Germans, the narrator recalls hearing Peter return to their tent later that night and climb into bed. The next morning, the narrator claims Peter’s bed looked slept in, though he knows the story sounds unbelievable.
