Chimera is Lauretta’s maid. Outside of Florence, Pampinea pairs her with Stratilia and assigns her to look after the needs of all the ladies. Her name, like the rest of the servants’, draws from classical Roman drama and indicates servility and the suspension of time in the frame narrative of The Decameron.
