Corso Donati appears in Lauretta’s ninth tale (IX, 8), as one of the wealthy Florentines who support the lifestyles of mooches like Biondello and Ciacco. The character is based on a real Florentine who was the head of the political faction opposed to Vieri de’ Cerchi, and he was exiled and murdered shortly before Giovanni Boccaccio’s lifetime.
